Dr. Mark Farrugia

Dr Mark Farrugia is a deputy head at a Maltese Church school with 14 years of experience and a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta, specializing in Reflective Practices, Educational Leadership and Critical Thinking. He is a member of the Faculty of Education within the departments of Leadership for Learning & Innovation and serves on the EdD board, where he also lectures. In addition, Dr Farrugia is a freelance lecturer with several adult learning institutions.

After completing his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Early and Middle Years, he furthered his studies in Leadership and Administration at Leicester University, focusing his research on culture, collaboration, professional learning communities, and critical thinking.

Dr Farrugia contributed significantly to launching a new primary school as an extension of a secondary school, fostering collaboration and developing curricula suited to 21st-century learning. He earned his PhD from University College London (IOE), with research centred on teacher agency and efficacy in self-directed professional development.
