Life in Malta

Malta is a colourful little archipelago that feels alive all year round, from its bright blue waters and honey-coloured buildings to its lively streets and sunlit countryside.

A Hidden Gem of Europe!

When you think of Europe, you might picture the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the canals of Venice. But tucked away in the heart of the Mediterranean is a small island with a big story: Malta. This year, our students are diving into the wonders of this fascinating country, and we’re excited to share what we’re discovering!

Situated in the heart of the Mediterranean, Malta is a small island nation made up of three main islands, Malta, Gozo, and Comino. Despite its size, Malta has played a significant role in European history and continues to stand out today as a proud and active member of the European Union.

With its blend of natural beauty, strategic location, and centuries of cultural influence, Malta offers a fascinating case study for students of history, politics, international relations, and cultural studies. Its capital city, Valletta, is a UNESCO World Heritage site, filled with baroque architecture, fortified walls, and vibrant urban life. The country’s layered identity, shaped by the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, the Knights of St. John, and the British - makes it a compelling example of cultural convergence and resilience.

In our programs, students are encouraged to explore Malta from multiple perspectives. Whether analysing the geopolitical importance of its location, studying the Maltese language (a rare blend of Arabic and Romance roots), or examining the country’s unique approach to sustainability and tourism, Malta provides meaningful opportunities for critical learning and global awareness.

Through seminars, presentations, research projects, and cultural exchange initiatives, we aim to bring Malta into the classroom in dynamic and relevant ways. By doing so, our students gain a deeper appreciation of Europe's diversity and the interconnectedness of its nations, reminding us that even the smallest countries can have a powerful voice and legacy.

The Native Language

It's hard to believe that this small country has its own language, but you better believe it! The Maltese language is beautifully complex and spoken throughout the entire island. Don't fret, however. Malta's other official language is English, so you won't have trouble getting by as most locals are bilingual.
