The Award in Financial Management provides an in-depth insight into the vital role of financial managers. Learners will acquire a thorough understanding of how financial managers make critical decisions that impact the financial well-being of companies. This includes exploring investment strategies, financing options and dividend policies. The programme will also explore the economic environment that shapes these decisions and provide learners with the skills to evaluate businesses within this context.

Learners will learn how to:

  • Manage businesses according to their unique investing, financing and/or dividend policy profile
  • Monitor the impact of the cost of capital on the value of a business
  • Determine an organisation’s working capital management needs and short-term funding strategies
  • Conduct appraisals for both short-term working capital needs and long-term investments
  • Compute and evaluate the various inputs and outputs arising from investment appraisal techniques, allowing for inflation and tax as well as risk and uncertainty

Mode of Assessment

The Award in Financial Management will be assessed through the use of an exam, an individual project and a reflective journal.
